Thank You

This past weekend we got a chance to talk to members of our families in Kenya. They are all doing fine, though insecurity and fear is still high. They were hoping that this week things would be better but the 'President' has just named his VP and we are shocked at who the new VP is. Thank you to all of you who have called or e-mailed and asked us how things are going. We really appreciate it. Thanks to those who have been praying for the situation.

Comcast

Comcast has been advertising this 19.99 deal for their high speed internet, and we have comcast but are paying much more than19.99, so I called them and asked them what do I need to do to get that 19.99 deal, well, I guess all I needed to do was ask, and now we have 19.99 for the next 6 months!!!! not sure how that works but it saves me money and I love it.
Now I am not going to run the 5K, too nervous, I am going to walk it instead. I have not had enough training!! maybe the next one

priceless moments

a priceless moment is when I come home from work on saturday (overtime) and find the house clean, laundry done, bathroom cleaned and Sila and Rehema gone to give me some alone quiet time.

a priceless moment is when after changing Rehema's dirty diaper she looks at me and says "thank you mommy"

Thank you Sila and Rehema for giving me many of those priceless moments

My only Sister - Christine Adda

One of the major highlights of going home was finding out that my only sister Christine Adda had made it to the finals of a major singing competition Aspiring artists auditioned from the three East African countries Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania and Christine made it to the finalist. it is sort of like American Idol where people vote via sms (which you pay for) to save one person every week from being eliminated. They were living in a kinda big brother sort of situation and every day they would air on TV the happenings of the house. I spent an afternoon sending sms's to save my sister unfortunately she was voted out. Congratulations Christine, we are so proud of you.
P/S her picture is the first among the contestants.

Kenya trip

i cannot believe that our two weeks visit to Kenya is over, everything in Kenya is an experience and we had an awesome time meeting with family and friends after 4 years. we thank God for his protection and we had a safe journey.
the highlights were:
- meeting family and friends especially having them meet Rehema for the first time
- having no water for 4 consecutive days, on day 4 we left for upcountry (rural) where there was plenty of water and electricity...how ironical
- eating juicy pineapples and mangos, drinking lots of mango juice, and eating bananas, paw paws and water melons and of course Ugali
- having no electricity for 24 hours and yet the house next door had electricity
- Rehema playing with every kid she met. She had so much fun, interesting how kids make new friends fast
- having a car that would not start before 10 am
- walking, walking and walking, we walked a lot which was good for us, we even walked in the rain
- going to the cyber cafe to check e-mail. it costs 1.5 cents a minute to surf, it took forever to load, and you could see what your neighbor was looking at without making an effort to look
- drinking lots of chai...I am afraid that Rehema is now addicted to chai
- having two punctures on our way back from upcountry
- having two big parties, the first one was with some of Sila's siblings, their spouses and kids and the second one was with Sila's parents and my parents and uncles and aunties plus a few other people
- sitting in a salon for 7 hours and have 5 people braid my hair at the same time

halloween & shopping

Rehema came running in from daycare the other week with a pumpkin she had painted for me...she was so excited about bringing it to me and I was even more excited to receive it.

I have been shopping for my folks in Kenya, it is kinda hard to shop especially when I go to store and find the piece of clothing with a tag written 'made in kenya' have fun trying to convince them that you actually bought that stuff in the US. I wish I could just give them gift cards (ha! ha!) well, kwaheri for now, when I figure out how to connect my flickr to my blog, i will post our kenya pictures. i can't wait to drink hot chai and samosas. yummy!!
